Coaching Staff – Competitive

Coach Whitney Arthur started her love for soccer in the Brookside Soccer Club (BSC) over 30 years ago. She played competitive soccer from age 8-17 years old and her skills and passion for the game are deeply rooted in BSC. She played high school soccer at St Teresas Academy where she was Defensive player of the year and was named to the All State Team her Senior year. She went on to play soccer at Missouri State University for three years, where she earned her degree in Sociology with a minor Biomedical Science and later went back to school to get her Nursing degree. She worked in the ICU for eight years and is now currently working in Oncology as a treatment nurse.

Coach Arthur has been coaching with Brookside Soccer Club for over seven years as a recreational coach. She is excited to make the move to competitive coaching.

Coach Tato Chiaparro is a longtime coach for Brookside Soccer Club. He also serves as Brookside’s Director of Coaching Education and Youth Development.

Coach Tato attended and played soccer for Lewis & Clark Community College and University of Missouri-Kansas City. While at Lewis & Clark, he was named Region Forward of the Year and selected to the first-team all-region squad. During his playing career at UMKC, Coach Tato was a two time All-WAC selection, a third-team NSCAA All-Region pick, an Academic All-WAC selection and a Scholar Athlete.

He is from Sao Paolo, Brazil, where he played high school futsal.

Coach Tato also serves as a graduate assistant for UMKC’s soccer program.

Coach Nick Garcia began coaching competitive soccer shortly after beginning his professional playing career in Kansas City and fell in love sharing his knowledge of the game with players of all abilities. In 2009, Coach Garcia earned his B license from the United States Soccer Federation. Upon retiring from 12 years in Major League Soccer, Coach Garcia returned to Kansas City where he assumed the Executive Director role of a competitive club in a Kansas City suburb. In early 2012, he joined Brookside Soccer Club as Executive Director, overseeing more than 2,500 players on both the recreational and competitive sides. Today, he oversees the day-to-day operations of Brookside Soccer Club and is in charge of the strategic growth and development of all things soccer.

Coach Garcia has spent many hours and years volunteering for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Jackson County CASA, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Mattie Rhodes Center and Teammates for Kids. He is married to Dr. MeLinda Garcia. They have 2 sons, Cruz and Axle, and a daughter, Isla, and live in the Kansas City area.

A native of Honduras, Coach Eddie Leiva started playing soccer for the U4-U9 of Deportivo Marathon and at the age of 14 participated in the Honduras National Team Developmental Program. He joined the Real Madrid Soccer Academy in Miami, Fla. where his team placed second in the Florida State Cup two years in a row. He also played in the final four of the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Soccer State Championships his senior year at Killian Senior High School. He was awarded with a position on the Mid-West Athletic Conference Region Team as a freshman at Lewis And Clark Community College and also played at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Coach Leiva played one year with the KC Cyclones professional futsal team. He holds a U.S. National E coaching license and plans to pursue additional coaching licenses.

He is working toward a career in dentistry after completing Bachelor degrees in both biology and chemistry.

Coach Carlos McField has been coaching with Brookside Soccer Club since 2014. He is also the head soccer coach and Athletic Director at Frontier STEM Charter High School. He was born and raised in Kansas City, Kan., where he attended and excelled in soccer and wrestling at Sumner Academy of Arts and Science, graduating in 1994. He attended Elon University in North Carolina where he graduated in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He received bachelor’s degrees in physical education and secondary education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2003. 

Coach Carlos coached 4 years at Belton High School, winning 3 consecutive conference and district championships. He was named conference coach of the year 3 years in a row. Coach McField also coached three years at Summit Christian Academy and was head coach for the boys’ and girls’ programs at Sacred Heart in Sedalia for four years, where he built the foundation for successful teams at both schools. Coach McField was also an assistant coach for eight years at The Pembroke Hill School. He also spent years in youth soccer, having coached for KC Odyssey, Blue Valley and KC Strikers soccer clubs prior to joining BSC.

Coach Carlos holds a USSF licensing, an NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma and received a master’s degree in education with a focus on sports administration and physical education from the University of Kansas in 2006.

Coach David Owens brings excellent playing and coaching experience to Brookside Soccer Club since 2013. He is the Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach at Metropolitan Community College. At MCC, Coach Owens earned National Junior College Athletic Association Region XVI Coach of the Year honors in 2010, 2014 and 2018 after collectively guiding the men’s and women’s teams to three NJCAA Region XVI Championships. Additionally, he coached for Futura Futbol Club from 2008 to 2013 and with People to People, Sports Ambassadors from 2002 to 2011. P2P coaching experiences include tournaments in Brazil, Austria, Netherlands and New Zealand.

Coach Owens grew up in Washington State and played collegiately for Spokane Community Collegea and Gonzaga University.

He has a Master’s Degree in Coaching & Athletic Administration from the University of Concordia Irvine and a USSF D coaching license.

Coach Matthew Pritchett has more than 25 years of coaching experience at the college, high school, club and Olympic Development Program levels. He has been the head boys’ and girls’ varsity coach at The Pembroke Hill School since 1999. In that time, he has developed one of the top high school programs in the state of Missouri.

Coach Pritchett has been coaching with Brookside Soccer Club since 2010, and is also a BSC board member. Coach Pritchett grew up in the St. Louis club soccer system and went on to play at Columbia College as a goalkeeper. A job opportunity moved him to Kansas City in 1991, where he continued his coaching with the Odyssey, Blue Valley and Kansas City Legends Soccer Clubs. He has also coached with the Olympic Development Program and, for the last several years, has been on the Region II coaching staff at developmental camps. 

He currently holds coaching licenses with USSF and NSCAA and has a master’s degree in elementary education from Rockhurst University.

Coach Alex Raich brings excellent playing and coaching experience and has been coaching with Brookside Soccer Club since 2014. She brings soccer and leadership accolades from Eastern Kentucky University where she lettered four years on the women’s soccer team. As a campus and soccer leader, Coach Raich played in 72 games in her career, third most all-time, and was one of the best goal scorers in program history, as she is second all-time at EKU in career goals and points.

A four-time Colonel Scholar and a consistent member of the Dean’s List and President’s List, Coach Raich graduated in the spring of 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. After graduating, she assisted communities in Guatemala through Soccer Without Borders where she was also a volunteer coach.
Following her playing career, Coach Raich was the assistant coach for the Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team. Coach Raich received a master’s of science in physical education in December of 2012. Raich was also a staff coach for the 2001 and 2002 girls Kentucky State Olympic Development Program team, and holds a USSF D coaching license.

Coach Fernando Rodríguez joins Brookside Soccer Club coaching staff in 2019 with a long history as a dedicated, passionate and reputable bilingual coach (Spanish) that began with his first steps in Madrid, Spain. Besides Brookside Soccer Club and Kansas City area, Coach Rodríguez remains involved in soccer in the US, Europe and South America. Coach Rodríguez is an enthusiastic mentor/teacher that encourages athletes to focus on personal growth and development, as well as academic and athletic achievement. He prides himself on developing technical and fundamental skills as well as improving players’ tactical knowledge and understanding.

Coach Rodríguez has successfully coached and directed men’s, women’s, boy’s and girls’ soccer, goalkeeping and Futsal across the world. This has included all levels from the amateur, competitive through professional from the very young through High School, College, the US Development Academy and Missouri Youth Soccer Association Olympic Development Program. In 2004-2006 seasons he led a U19s men’s team in the Missouri State Cup, after becoming Division “A” Champions in Saint Louis. In 2017 he led the Shawnee Mission East High School Freshman Boys to win every game scoring 71 goals, allowing only 6.

His experience also includes training coaches for the California Youth Soccer Association-North (CYSA-N), for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), and in the Saint Louis Metropolitan area.

Coach Rodríguez is National “A” Licensed in 3 countries – US Soccer Federation, Scottish Football Association (Scotland) and Spanish Royal Football Federation (Spain). He also holds a US National Youth Coaching License, United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma, United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping Certification, Union of European Football Associations (UEFA PRO), American College of Sports Medicine (A.C.S.M.) Fitness Trainer and is a US Soccer Federation Referee.

He has been selected for MasterCard’s Ambassador of Soccer honoring foreign-born Americans for their contribution, promotion and enhancement of American soccer (1994 Finalist), and invited to Real Madrid FC Academy training center symposiums (2012,2013) to study youth academy and player development programs.

Jeffrey Tipping is serving Brookside Soccer Club as Coaching Technical Advisor. His role is to provide guidance with programming and coaches training for the entire Club, but his focus is with the competitive division.

Born in Liverpool, England, Coach Tipping played soccer for Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, where he won the 1977 NCAA Division I National Championship and was named defensive MVP. He played professionally with the American Soccer League with the New York Eagles and Pennsylvania Stoners, where he served as team captain. While with the Stoners, he was a 3-time Allstar, an MVP and won the 1980 ASL National Championship. He holds a bachelor’s degree in European history from Hartwick College and a master’s in European history from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.

Coach Tipping began his coaching career as an assistant at Hartwick College, and later served as the head coach of soccer and golf at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. From 2002-2011, Coach Tipping served as director of coaching education at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in Kansas City.

He served as technical director and director of College Bound Program for the Palm Beach Soccer Academy.

Coach Tipping holds a UEFA A License, US Soccer Federation A License, NSCAA Master Coach, FIFA Futuro Award and a North and Central American B License Assessor for UEFA.

Soccer has always been a major part of Coach Josh White’s life. He has played since high school where he lettered all 4 years playing for Blue Valley West in Overland Park, KS. Upon graduating he attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City playing for the Kangaroos all 4 years. After graduating, Coach White spent 2004-2007 playing for the Kansas City Brass and in 2007 was part of the PDL All Conference Team. From 2009-2012 he played for the Kansas City Wizards reserves and Kansas Magic. 

Coach White spends his off-time with his wife, Casey, and their children, Kohen and Emmersyn.
